The goal outlined in the University of Minnesota’s Strategic Plan is to be a world-class research institution. To achieve this goal, the University must provide cutting-edge teaching and research laboratories along with classroom spaces for critical programs. Kolthoff Hall is the home of the University’s Department of Chemistry and was sorely in need of renovation. Seven floors of the aging building were renewed. Improvements included new fume hood ventilation and renovation of air handling units to improve indoor air quality; utility upgrades and connections to the chilled water loop; exterior maintenance and waterproofing; and upgrades to the vertical transport areas.
