The Hormel Institute

University of Minnesota

Austin, MN

completed in 2008

80,000 square feet new construction

_ More Manufacturing and Research Labs Projects

The Hormel Institute is an independent research branch of the University of Minnesota, whose research contributes to the development of new prevention and treatment therapies for cancer and other chronic diseases. Having tripled their National Institutes of Health funding in just five years, the institute desperately needed more space.

In response, we designed a two story, 80,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility that reflects the rapidly rising position of The Hormel Institute in the world of medical and scientific research.  The first floor showcases a striking contemporary design for the conference and teaching seminar room, equipped to host up to 200 people.  The remainder of the building features cutting edge research laboratories, furnished with the latest in scientific equipment and technology.

The new facilities have been both significant and transforming. The institute has been able to recruit prominent scientists with interests in cancer-preventative research, as well as to host international scientific conferences where the newest ideas, breakthroughs and discoveries will be presented, determined and shared with the world.  The Hormel Institute is now a destination for the best scientists and medical researchers from around the globe.
