Bangalore, India HDFC has established itself as a brand known for trust, integrity and for staying close to its customers. Their pilot program for a new K-12 school will bring affordable, quality education to the emerging middle-class in India. Alexander Architect's design for the first prototypical school is based on these HDFC's main objectives:

• Successfully develop a modular, efficient and dynamic 1 - 12 Learning Unit that can be replicated on any site, modified and/or enlarged by added functions – oriented in any direction and easily stacked vertically for urban environments.

• Develop a "School-within-a-school" concept providing stand-alone, autonomous educational Units, where teaching staff respond to a student's individual needs and learning styles, plan their work in collaborative environment, and enjoy a more intimate "home base" feeling and stronger sense of belonging for each student.

• Bring natural day light and fresh air into every educational space in the building.
