45,000 square foot addition

_ More Cultural Projects

The Children’s Theatre Company, housed in a 1974 Kenzo Tange-designed complex, was turning away students because of a lack of space. Programming was limited as well. With a goal to expand theatre offerings, CTC hired Michael Graves & Associates to design a 45,000 square foot addition. Our team collaborated with Graves’ team on the project, which includes a new black box theatre and support spaces, a new rehearsal space, expanded education department, as well as expansion and remodeling to the main stage, theatre workshops and administration areas. The addition of a black box theater allows for a much wider range of possibilities for the educational program at CTC, and the extra back-of-house space gives the performers and staff sorely needed breathing room backstage.
